Fine example of the third model Winchester 1866 carbine in the 130,000 serial number range,  manufactured in 1876. The brass receiver on this gun has aged to a beautiful mustard patina with sharp edges.  The barrel is a smooth brown patina with strong manufacturer and patent date markings. The rear sight is the correct non-adjustable leaf sight made prior to serial number 155,000. The front sight is the correct blade style that is integral to the barrel band as found on serial numbers prior to 152,000. The action is tight and crisp. Screws, with the exception of small screw which tightens the leaf sight, are perfect. That one screw shows typical signs of being repeatedly tightened.

The original oil finished walnut stock is in excellent condition with fine edges and wood to metal fit. The buttstock is a correct “modified shotgun style” with brass buttplate that was standard for the third model. Due to the lighting, the buttstock looks much darker than the forend in some of the pictures. Both pieces are original to the gun and match in color. The closeups of the buttstock show the color acurately.

This is a very solid example of a third model Winchester 1866. These “Yellow Boy” carbines saw heavy usage and finding examples in this condition is difficult.
